COMPENSATION: Commensurate based on experience

 Organizational Background:

PACT: People Acting in Community Together is a multi-faith, multi-racial grassroots organization that empowers ordinary people to win extraordinary victories. Using the PICO Organizing Model we recruit community members and developing their innate leadership skills in order to build power and create systemic change using the PICO Organizing Model.  Our vision is to catalyze a movement by using our prophetic voice and work with key stakeholders to create pathways to shared prosperity and a society in which every person lives with dignity and respect.

 PACT creates change on the local, state and national levels.  Our victories include co-founding the historic Santa Clara County Children’s Health Initiative; we have created high-quality new schools; expanded affordable housing, transportation, and community services; improved public safety and police- community relations, and more!

PACT has a diverse staff and a large base of clergy/faith grassroot leaders in 30+ member congregations across Santa Clara County.  As a member of the Faith In Action National Network and statewide affiliate PICO, we are intentional about building a multi-faith, multi-racial organization and putting faith at the center of our work.

PACT’s current operating budget is approximately $1.5 Million. Funding for the organization comes from a variety of sources including approximately 20% from our annual leadership luncheon; 30% from foundations; 20% from government grants; and 20% from individual donors, and 10% from membership dues and misc. 

PACT’s Development Director would lead and implement PACT’s overall funding and communications work, manage PACT’s online presence to project the organization’s work to a broad audience, build our funding portfolio and support our organizing efforts through effective communication strategies. Our Development Director ideal candidate will have a community-based background, great management skills, be creative, detail orientated, and excellent writing skills.

Fund Development (55%)

  • Lead the development and successful implementation of a comprehensive and diversified fundraising plan, with an emphasis on increasing fundraising capacity and revenue in collaboration with the Executive Director.

  • Implementation of long and short-term fund development strategies.

  • Oversee all corporate and foundation grant solicitations, work with staff to assure that grant requirements are being met.

  • Research, writing submit, letters of inquiry, grant proposals and reports.

  • Maintain grants calendar and consult with staff and leaders to meet fundraising goals.

  • Support Executive Director in maintaining funder relationships and identifying foundation prospects.

  • Oversee the coordination of PACT’s annual Leadership Luncheon, including volunteer leadership development, marketing, and sponsorship recruitment.

  • Recruit and train volunteer fundraising team – i.e. Friends of PACT.

  • Create planned giving/endowment program to support the long-term sustainability of the organization.

  • Assist with the development of the organizational budget in conjunction with the Executive Director, maintain and PACT portfolio.

Communications (35%)

  • Update PACT’s website with updated content for events, press releases, news, current campaign work, and updates as necessary

  • Ensure website language reflects organization mission and values.

  • Create and launch innovative email campaigns for variety of organization needs, including action-oriented communications, newsletters, donor appeals, and action recaps.

  • Manage the organization’s social media communications platforms and strategies, including regular monitoring, posting, and maintenance of Facebook and Twitter accounts.

  • Assist staff to utilize organizational databases/contact lists on – Salesforce, Blocks and other customer relationship management platforms to communicate with broad and target segments of the community to engage more people in organizing and build support for PACT and its campaigns.

  • Design and create solicitation materials, including marketing collateral, website, and annual report.


Organizational Leadership (10%)

  • Track and evaluate all fund development activities. Provide bi-monthly reports to Board of Directors.

  • Oversee tracking, data entry, invoicing, and acknowledgement of all donations and membership dues.

  • Assess the organization’s current on-line strategies and their integration with the overall communications strategies to identify and prioritize opportunities to strengthen PACT’s overall community organizing work.

  • Use online metric tools to analyze effectiveness of on-line strategies for evaluation and improvement of communication methodology.


Skills and Experience

  • B.A. or at least three to five years, results-oriented experience in fundraising with increasing responsibilities, including management.

  • At least one to three years of communications and/or public affairs experience.

  • Experience in planning, organizing, coordinating and evaluating special events, personal solicitation campaigns, direct mail, and the development of grant proposals.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people – staff, Board of Directors and other high-level volunteers, program participants and donors.

  • Ability to present oneself in a convincing and professional manner and to inspire and generate enthusiasm in volunteers and staff.

  • Proven relationship-building skills within the funder community, corporate and individual donors.

  • Ability to self-prioritize, strategize, organize and follow through on tasks within time parameter.

  • Highly self-motivated and excellent judgment.

  • Ability to prepare budgets, plans and reports.

  • Proficiency with database/fundraising software (such as Exceed), Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Familiarity with 501 c 3 structures and community based organizing a plus.
