SAN JOSE -- The Emmanuel Baptist Church, which has made itself one of the city's foremost faith-based institutions pushing for better police accountability and community relationships, is set to host the third "Coffee With a Cop" event with the San Jose Police Department on Sunday.

The event will be held at the church at 467 N. White Road from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

"Coffee With a Cop" is a national program aimed at coordinating meetings between police officers and residents in casual environments as part of broader community policing goals. SJPD began its iteration in October at Roy's Station in Japantown and held a second event in April at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in East San Jose.

While it had been long planned, Sunday's event is particularly timely in light of a recent spate of high-profile police shootings in Minnesota and Baton Rouge that have killed black men, and the slayings of police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge believed to be retaliatory attacks.
