SJ Council Vote: Defend Ellis Act Tenant Protections

Join PACT and other members as we hold city hall accountable and urge them not to weaken existing tenant protection laws. The current proposal would weaken the City’s new Ellis Act Ordinance to allow for more demolitions and more redevelopments of existing older buildings. It would especially target the minority and single mother households that inhabit the overwhelming majority of rent controlled housing. The Housing Department has shown that tenants in rent controlled buildings include 49% Latinos, 34% Asians, and 5% African Americans.

Immigration Action: #KeepDucHome

Father, husband, community leader, and member of St. Maria Goretti Đức Nguyễn has lived in San Jose for 23 years. Đức has contributed his heart and soul to this region for over two decades, and ICE wants to take that away. In December 2018, our community successfully beat ICE and kept Đức home. But now, ICE is at it again and wants to take Đức away from his family. San Jose is his home and his family and community relies on him. Our community is determined to #KeepDucHome. On Friday afternoon, we will stand with Đức as he walks into the USCIS building, demand that ICE does not detain him, and sing until Đức comes back out of the building, safe and unharmed.

#KeepDucHome
