PACT’s
volunteer community leaders are increasing access to quality,
affordable healthcare for under served populations in Santa
Clara County.
PACT drove the community organizing effort
that led to the creation of the Children’s Health Initiative,
which provides access to high-quality health insurance to
all low-income children in the County. A first of its kind
in the nation, the Children’s Health Initiative is now
spreading across California and the United States, as other
communities seek to replicate this model.
PACT has also worked to increase funding
for community health clinics, fought to keep hospitals open
and serving indigent communities, and, with PICO California,
won preliminary approval of an expansion of a state health
insurance program to include low-income, working parents.

“Even though I recently moved
to this country, PACT sees me as a leader. And I’ve
begun to see myself that way, too! PACT taught me how to work
with other people in my neighborhood to create this new health
program for children. My kids are healthier now. I never imagined
I could be part of something this important.”
Irma Perez, PACT volunteer leader in the
creation of the Children’s Health Initiative |
